Action Heroines, Bleeding Heroes and Hopping Vampires – Subgenres of Golden Era of Hong Kong Cinema

At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, Hong Kong cinema was at its peak in terms of its strong position in the global video market, but also high production and strength of the local film industry. It produced a high number of creative authors and international stars as well as unique local subgenres. The lecture will present the most significant examples, ranging from action label girls with guns or heroic bloodshed, to the CAT III with adult-only attractions or distinctive horror adaptations and comedies based on folk traditions.
