An Inn in Tokyo (Music: Massimo Pupillo)

Tókjó no jado / Jasudžiró Ozu / Japan 1935 / 81 min. / 35mm
An Inn in Tokyo is Ozu’s last preserved silent film, as well as his last picture about Kihachi, a wandering proletarian father. Kihachi and his two sons struggle to find work in the world of the economic depression and to help a single mother who gets his sympathy. This is a masterpiece with many features of Ozu’s later, more conceptual works.
