HOT TV: Why True Crime and Why Now?

True crime has enjoyed a real boom during the last ten years, both on TV and in podcasts. On the one hand, we can see some connection with the expansion of the Internet, on the other, crime has fascinated people since time immemorial. Whether in the form of public executions in the past or as the latest series on Netflix, crime has always sparked a morbid curiosity in us. What contributes to the popularity of true crime and why are we fascinated by a genre that depicts violence and the worst aspects of humanity? Television theorist Klára Feikusová from Palacký University will talk about the genre’s ambivalence and its current rise.
