M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder

Fritz Lang / Germany 1931 / 110 min. / DCP
Perhaps a surprising epilogue to the cycle of silent films with live music is Fritz Lang's first sound film M from 1931. It is not silent and live music will not play, yet it can paralyze with its use of silence and the only music in it is the live whistling of a child murderer that haunts a German city.
