Primetime TV Entertainment in the GDR

Since the middle of the 1950s, the television signal of the public television stations in the Federal Republic of Germany covered a large part of the German Democratic Republic. Therefore, the GDR television had competition and had to take this into account. The big Saturday entertainment shows, such as the Ein Kessel Buntes and many others, had to compete with the West German ones.
