The Chambermaid

Just before the First World War, a young poor girl Anka is sent from a Slovakian village to Prague to work as a maid for a German diplomat. She carries out her duties in a noble mansion while facing humiliation. Soon, an intense flame of unprecedented passion and attachment awakens between her and the master’s daughter, Rezi. Slovak scriptwriter-director Mariana Čengel Solčanská’s eighth film is based on the eponymous novel by Hana Lasicová who also helped to adapt it into the screenplay.
