Irina is a Ukrainian immigrant whose teenage son has been assaulted by three young Romas. The poor woman receives help from a police investigator, a student activist and a mayor. The sharp line between truth and lie becomes increasingly blurred… Slovak director Michal Blaško’s critically acclaimed social drama, which had been developed for five years, opens the sore social wounds having stemmed from a tense multi-ethnic coexistence, creeping xenophobia and opportunism. Moreover, the film is remarkable for its extraordinary narrative and stylistic virtuosity.
