Christian Paigneau’s documentary opens with a quote from Milan Kundera’s book The Joke: Most people succumb to the illusion of contradictory faith. They think that our memory is intransient, but at the same time, they believe it can be redeemed. In fact, the opposite is true. Everything will be forgotten and nothing can be redeemed. A devastating fact for the main character of the book, Ludvík Jahn, as well as for Kundera’s contemporary, Jan Procházka.
