Drunken Angel

Akira Kurosawa / Japan 1948 / 95 min. / DCP
The film from a poor suburb shows post-war life in Japan and falls into the Japanese genre of shomin-geki, which is dedicated to the life of the lower middle class. At the same time, it uses the narrative structure of American gangster films and the elements of Italian neorealism. The base of the story is an unusual friendship between a criminal and an alcoholic doctor of the poor.
