Fatherland
In his latest film, which won the Best Director Award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Pawel Pawlikowski tells the story of Thomas Mann’s divided family as they return to post-war Germany. The Nobel Prize winner is accompanied by the film’s protagonist, his daughter Erika (played by Sandra Hüller). Through powerful black-and-white imagery, the film explores themes of exile and homecoming, values in times of change, and the weight of history.
