Germany Year Zero

Of Rossellini's post/war film trilogy, Germany Year Zero is the most radical, unforgiving, and difficult to grasp for the audience, at once cynical and moving, realistic and symbolic. It is a film work which has remained aesthetically compelling (among other things) precisely because of its internal contradictions.
