Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations
The footage of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin is renowned for its visually striking filmmaking techniques. However, behind the ancient beauty standards and international cooperation it masks a triumph of hard drill, and transforms the contestants into dehumanized representatives of races and nations. But some are still worth rooting for: the Afro-American athletes who defy the dehumanizing perspective.
