The Current and Future Role of Festivals

Are there too many festivals? Did the COVID-19 pandemic expose their limits, or have they become more important than before? The first European film festivals emerged in the 1940s, including the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival which was later restricted by the Communist regime. Was it only due to political decisions? The hidden history of film festivals is shown in the new book Intertwined Worlds: KVIFF During The Second World War. The discussion will be attended by its editor Jindřiška Bláhová, film historian Jaromír Blažejovský, Lukáš Skupa and festival organizer Jakub Felcman.
