The Psychology of Film: Understanding Film Stories

Despite some weird experimental SFS screenings that try to prove the opposite, watching films is actually a pretty easy task. Cinematic narration is understandable even for kids or absolute beginners. Film masters try to make us forget about the outside world and get carried away by fictitious sounds and images. But how do we process these stimuli? Why does our mind connect them into a coherent story? And to what extent do we actually believe these stories? This lecture will describe some of the processes that take place in viewers’ minds, although they may not want to admit it.
