After the success of the Wallace film, Der Zinker (The Squeaker), made with Martin Frič
and produced by his own Berlin company, Ondra-Lamac-Film, Karel Lamač
immediately began to work on an adaptation of another novel by Edgar Wallace, the
uncrowned king of pulp crime stories. As critics said, the result was “a movie full of
suspense and surprises, thrilling from the first to the very last frame”.
