The pioneering Czech cinematographer Otto Heller enjoyed a long and distinguished career, during which he photographed more than 230 films. After emigrating to London in 1940, Heller made a substantial contribution to the development of British cinema, photographing films in a wide range of genres and styles. In this lecture, Duncan Petrie will explore Heller’s British career, focussing on three decades of creative innovation and technical excellence, in collaboration with major directors including Alexander Mackendrick, Laurence Olivier, Michael Powell and Sidney J. Furie.
