“Feature-Length” Creativity Challenges or Origins of Czech Film Narration

Are most Czech filmmakers really unable to use correct forms of narration even after a hundred years? Or have they deliberately preferred alternative methods all the time? This irritating question can only be satisfactorily answered by going back to the first half of the 20th century, to the beginnings of systematic production of feature films. At that time, the form of feature-length films was established and the subsequent strong generation of filmmakers had to find ways of fulfilling it with right stories and appropriate narrations. The lecture will also explain three collateral patterns that can be traced in Czech cinema up until today.
