Awards:
Just like Karel Lamač or Otto Heller, Gustav Machatý was also fascinated by cinema
from a young age. He was an occasional pianist and projectionist in Prague cinemas, but
he wanted to become a film star. After several acting attempts, he won recognition in 1926
with his directorial debut, an adaptation of Tolstoy’s novel The Kreutzer Sonata.
