Tracing Spies (Not Only) in Czech Interwar Cinema

The lecture will outline the world’s history of spy movies and focus on the motifs of espionage in Czech interwar cinema, where they emerged with the first feature films. What did they look like, what roles did they fulfil, what stories did they appear in? And how did these forms, functions and stories transform in the period between the establishment of Czechoslovak state in the late 1910s and the emergence of the new threat in the 1930s.
