When the Roles Reverse: Taking Care of Ageing Parents

Thousands of people in the Czech Republic look after their elderly parents at home, often without guidance, support or appreciation. How to manage the elderly care at home, where to turn for help, and what does such care entail? And when should we seek the caregiving service to help us? The discussion is for those who find themselves in a new role as caregivers. We will talk about the reality that many people live in, but only few talk about. We will share some useful information about the system of elderly care, where to seek assistance, and what are the main obstacles. People don’t want to hear theories. They need to know what to do and where to go in their particular town or region. We will also discuss the psychological aspects of the matter, and how to deal with remorse, guilt, frustration and conflicts between siblings. Emotional aspects of elderly care are often overlooked, yet they are crucial. We believe that our perspective will bring both depth and relief. Jindřich Štreit will tell us his personal, authentic story of being a caregiver, which will certainly be very helpful. It will allow the audience to relate – “I am not alone in this.” It can connect the general public with an expert topic.
