It’s 1937 and Los Angeles is suffering from a severe drought. A woman walks into the office of private investigator J. J. Gittes, suspecting that her husband, the chief engineer at the Department of Water and Power, is cheating on her. Slightly hesitating, Gittes takes the case. Soon, he finds himself in the midst of a scandal beyond his wildest imagination.
