A shivering professor and his assistant arrive at a snow-covered inn where superstitious locals spend their time surrounded by wreaths of garlic. The locals fear a mysterious count who is said to go hunting at night. What appears to be a typical vampire horror film turns into a playful movie in which Polanski parodies this usually serious genre.
